I would think that by now someone would come up with a better/stronger heel riser design...I busted about 4 Voile heel risers last year, I also read that the breaking was due to the rubber coating on the Voile wires which has been removed on the new risers??

Anyone have luck with other high and dual heel risers besides Voile?

The only heel riser options that I know of, all seem to use the same wire design...

Voile
G3
Karakoram

I sold a few of the first Voile dual sets and they all failed, got repalcements from Voile and they seem to be ok with none returned yet.
I use the New Voile and G3 on my personal boards and have no probs, i'm over the 100kg with all my gear on a multiday and they can handle the stress.
You will have some probs with the G3 as they dont work with the Voile/Spark crampons in all modes.
I use mainly the Voile slider plates with hardboot bindings but have tested with Light rail and Spark and there is no difference in performance relating to the binding.
Haven't tried the Karakoram cause we cant get them in Australia!

Any one else have any ideas?

Cheers

I have had good luck with the G3's. I run them with the Voile heel-piece underneath, and some hardware store tubing. FYI they may not fit properly with MR Chomps, so I moved them back a little, or you could dremel them a little to fit.

AGREED! :nononno:

I slayed a pair of voile and g3 risers last year. No rubber coating on the g3, not sure if that was the issue.

On the voile, the wire bent and the stop for the wire on the plate 'stripped' on me. On the g3, literally 20 strides into my ascent, the fucking plate stripped at the stop while using the tall wire.

I am considering the 21mm base instead of the 8mm. The thicker base may hold up better to my 270 lbs.

Chank: Maybe you should built some custom base pieces. Have someone CNC some replicas (or design your own) out of aluminum and give them a shot. Your a big boy and big boys need strong gear. Who knows you may even get orders from some people here. Splitboard gear is still in such short supply with limited options...

Watch your ass with those G3 risers.

When they go it is sudden and catastrophic. I used mine for two seasons and was stoked right up until the moment the plastic decided it'd had enough and the risers wouldn;t stay up. A mile later the other heel followed suit. The bummer is, they gave hardly any sign of failing until they did.

Now I carry a spare heel block.

Just curious as to why you can't get Karakoram gear in Australia. I had no trouble getting board clips sent to New Zealand. Have you tried placing an order directly to Bryce or Tyler via email?

Most Ozzies would buy this stuff if it was locally supported and stocked.

Ahh right gotcha.

Maybe next season (Southern Hemisphere winter) they might hopefully arrange some Southern Hemisphere distribution. Would be cool to get Karakoram gear stoked in NZ as well. Their board clips are awesome and I got to check out the tip and tail clips on a demo board last week end. Man they are strong, way stronger than the Voile ones. Zero board shear at the tip and tail with those clips.

Just wanted to give some props to Voile for sending me new duel heel risers, looks like they made changes to beef up the plastic and removed the rubber coating off the wires...Looking forward to testing them out

Thanks for the great customer service!! :headbang:

If you use aluminum you'll have problems with ice build up.
Not all platics are create equal, If your intereted in making something yourself ebay delrin and you will get offcut sections.
The stuff is stronger, harder and easier to machine an use it on all my diy plastic sectionsImage

don't mean to bump an ancient thread, but.....

all you big people out there, I started using the G3, 21mm dual height riser this season and it has worked out well for me, as in, it did not break

it is a little too tall to let the binding rest flush on the deck when touring, but that didn't matter to me, shit still works.

One point though, they give you wood screws for hardware and the hardware I had didn't fit the holes on the risers. I ended up shaving just a little off the circumference of the screw heads with a grinder and they fit just fine.
