My wife supports my splitboarding addiction and is truly happy for the joy it brings me. I was talking to her last night and told her that I lost five bros in Colo over the weekend. She asked how I knew them and my response was that I had never met any of them...but they're still my bros! She gets it but not fully, how could she?

Shrednar--we've both been on this site for a long time and always appreciate your perspective, humor, and level head. We've never met but I know you are a great person and I consider you a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and forever. Hang in there buddy!!

RIP and condolences to all those involved.

Eco....I agree with you. I feel crushed right now....I have never met any of these fellows, but fellow splitters all the same.

Such a tragedy and a gut wrenching feeling.

On to Nirvana...RIP

My thoughts and prayers to those lost and to those that must carry on without you. Although I did not know you, I am sure that in some way I have benefitted from the knowledge and passion you gentlemen brought to backcountry boarding and for that I thank you. Rest in peace. You will never be forgotten.

The worst news. With all I've read in the last few days, So glad to come over to this site and see positivity and nothing but good things being said.

Hike for turns, fantastic tribute quote. I only knew one of them and am glad to have spent mountain time with them. Rest in peace...

Any word yet on a fund for the victims' families? Just read that Ian Lamphere has a young child. This is so incredibly sad.

There is a fund set up for Ian's family.

I'm sure any donation is appreciated.

Awesome to see that with a goal of $5000, over $21,000 has been contributed so far.

it's hard to really process any sort of meaningful response to this. vibes to the victims, friends, family, and emergency responders.

Shan Sethna and Justin Peacock FOBP's Executive Director and Lead Avalanche Instructor did a solid piece on this accident and how we should collectively move forward.

On working and learning together

Been a week full of thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of those who lost someone they loved. Rest in Peace Brothers. You are missed.

On a positive note, this week has shown me just how awesome a community we have. Several forums out there have been full of speculation, arm chair quarterbacking and a general lack of respect for those who lost their lives. Not here. Thank you. This kind of respect is getting more and more rare these days.

Sure we give each other crap about what kind of set up we think is "best", but ultimately that really doesn't matter. What does is our friendship and a love of the mountains, a common bond.

Of course we all want to know what happened so we can learn from it. But this takes patients, among other things, and at the very least, to wait for an "official" report (Now out from CAIC).
