I knew Ian, Joe, and Rick. Although my time with them was brief, they were all enthusiastic, stand up guys, who shared a large passion for splitboarding and skiing. I met Joe and Rick the week prior at Silverton Splitfest. I was struck by Rick's calm and calculated demeanor. As soon as you met Rick, you knew he was a good person. Joe's enthusiasm and spirit for the sport struck me from the beginning, and his friendliness, enthusiasm, and spirit was a pleasure to be around in the short time we spent together. I was excited to hear of their first event at Loveland following our Silverton Splitfest, and this has turned into a huge nightmare.

Ian, who was owner of Gecko skins, a Vermonter, was a great guy who had a huge passion for the sport of backcountry skiing. There is a fundraiser for Ian's fiance, and infant daughter Madelyn found here. http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fund-for-madelyn?c=home

This accident hurts a lot. Rest in peace Joe, Ian, Rick, Chris and Ryan.

Any word yet on a fund for the victims' families? Just read that Ian Lamphere has a young child. This is so incredibly sad.

There is a fund set up for Ian's family.

I'm sure any donation is appreciated.

Rest in peace Rick and all the other riders. I rode with Rick for a few days in Rogers Pass a few years ago, and spoke with him just a couple weeks ago on the phone. He was a super kind and helpful guy, very thoughtful and humble. My thoughts go out to his family and wife and to all the other people affected by this tragedy. These things definitely give pause....

Rick at Rogers.

I hardly knew these folks but I'm finding this really sad. I had just gotten a taste of CO hospitality and stoke at last week's Silverton fest. I was struck by Joe's enthusiasm the couple times I got to chat with him. My thoughts and support go out to all the victims' friends and family.

Man, what horrible, horrible news. Always hard to hear about these tragedies in the mountains, and especially when it affects our small splitboard community so directly. My thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and families of these guys.

It sounded like they were doing everything right. You just never know out there... RIP.

Shit.

Does anyone on here have info on Chris Peters?

I knew Ian from many years ago, in Vermont. And from that same time/community, I know a Chris Peters. It is a common name, so I'm just trying to figure out if it's the same person.

My heart goes out to everyone involved. Joe was a very respected part of the snowboard comunity in this area and we are all greatly effected. I met Ian and his wife at the silverton splitfest last year and thought very highly of them. As a father i can not imagine the pain Leigh is going through. Please donate to Madelyn to help with the costs.

They both had a lot of enthusiasim and good heads on their shoulders. I for one will live everyday to its fullest, appreciating all that i have experienced and the family and friends i have. Never taking anything for granted and always remembering the good people i have met in this life.
