Oh hell yes there is snow out there and the snow freeze/melt cycle seems to be perfect right now according to the CAIC snowpack discussions. What I was worried about Memorial Day weekend was wet slabs due to the fact it was not dropping below freezing at night for almost the entire prior week. We ended up erring on the side of safety and rode inbounds at A-basin last Sunday.

Did Jones Pass today. June 1st and getting it..... Actually this counts as my first backcountry trip. Skinned up with a backcountry experienced buddy of mine from my local CrossFit gym. We did as the CAIC recommended for this time of year, "Ride early, exit early". Fun time getting out there today!

I wish I was more computer savy...... me and GBT did quandary yesterday and rode the east facing bowl and a south facing couly. the snow is still on and popping here in Colorado, Yeah down south seems to fade out early but here in the front range- summit areas I have not even been on north facing stuff yet!!! probably this weekend we will play on some north stuff. snow seems pretty stable, from droppinjg cornices on indy pass a week ago to riding south facing after 12pm I feel the snow is getting very stable. No wet action or cornice fall while I was riding, and I was fully expecting it in places, but the bonding has been great!. the temp game is very strange, like Saturday night was a low of 31 and let me tell you it was HELLA frozen, not like the couple hours of freeze the forcast called for... I wouldn't ride EAST facing until 9am that's how solid it was. the freeze numbers are confusing because elevation, wind, clouds, all impact what the snow will do.

how is jones looking? that place has to be the worst place to split ever! All kinds of lumpy from the sleds running around back there. I have since taking the snow search to higher peaks as the lower stuff is just turning to sloppy muck..

still love it though!
