finally a snowboard binding company has decided to enter the splitboard market!
SP will offer a specific binding for next season, including a different system to attach the crampon.

Thumbs up for the crampons, but zero inovation in the bindings - standard snowboard binding with integrated puck sliders, instead of the typical snowboard plate.

I've never used a back entry binding but that looks very interesting. Cool crampon idea too, except it doesn't look like it will get much bite if using the climbing bar. Another negative of using the Voile plate is having to dig under the toe ramp to do the pin.

for what they said, it will be offered both in fastec system (back entrance) or regular system.

*yawn* ... pins are so 2012...


way too many moving parts, no real useful innovation.

I've used the high end K2 rear entry bindings. They weigh so much more than a regular binding. Rear entry is something that should only be marketed to those learning how to snowboard.

Personally, aside from what we already have with the current offerings, I'd like to see lower profile bindings (foot to board), quicker transitions, and more torsional stiffness.

Stoked to see more companies willing to bring products to market, but as of now, I'll stick with the boutique guys.

Wow. They spent two seasons refining and this is what they came up with???? Really, really weak. Spark and Karakoram have nothing to worry about.
I guess it is not that surprising though, most mainstream snowboard companies are marketing companies which happen to make and sell gear...

Your right Barrows, spark, phantom, karakorum ect have nothing to worry about. Man, these snowboard companies might benefit from having people that actually splitboard on their design teams. The promo K2 quicker video was embarrassing to watch. He walked around like he had snowshoes on.

Spark, Kara, Phantom, all the core, innovative startups, if your reading this, keep it up, and thank you for being splitboarders

I envision a museum--a museum playing the "much too complex" hip hop song in the background (catch that?)--for useless splitboard gear designed by resort riders.

What I like is that they even botched the one cool feature they could have taken advantage of with rear-entry: a super-comfy, long-stride touring-mode tipped-back high back. Instead, the design renders the ankle strap and therefore the entire binding useless when the high back is depressed.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but how exactly do hard boots lead to a quicker transition?

Those SP bindings are ripoffs and their technology isn't really 2012. It's more like 2010. I've been welding bindings since then. Even came out with using flow highbacks which I have been using for the past 2 years...In fact they did screw up the ankle strap coming loose when the highback is unlocked. Totally lame...I connected the ankle strap to the highback itself so I could take the long strides in touring mode without my boot coming out of the binding. The crampons are cool though, but not worth passing over Spark's bindings next season. Only thing that would clinch a binding for me is to mod a pair of Spark's new tesla bases with my flow highbacks.

I will be writing up a review, but I got to Demo a pair of Spark Magneto's at the Donner Party. Im sold on it.
