you be sure to mention an epic trip like that... im pretty sad right now. Hoping things turn around for spring.. Im already starting to think about swimming and cliff jumping. usually that doesnt happen till late march... i guess 70's in denver this week will do that to ya.

i hear ya...i have a big Moab wheeling event going on at the end of may and this warm weather has gotten me eying that trip more and more...

looking forward to a heavy spring to pull through and allow some quality days on the split before the full thaw hits

Ok, San Juan update. Its outside my work window right now. Was out yesterday, super high avy danger, so didn't splitboard, but did lots of digging (I suck as snowmobiling). About 1-2ft of very dense (said 15% on forecasts) around 9K to 10K. Didn't get much higher then 10K, but lots of snow from 9K up. There is another warning in affect right now saying another 1-2 feet with drifts up to 3-4. I expect very high avy danger for a few days, but it seems the snow came in wet and will be finishing dry, so hopefully that's a recipe for good things in the near future!

San Juans have been GOOD. The 4 feet we got last week is stabilizing a bit, but far from being safe. Got out both days last weekend, nothing crazy, but good turns and fun, and glad we have a base finally.

finally! i was worried it wouldnt have a chance to fill in before it was too late! those turns look GOOD! some steep too yeah? lucky. we ironically just changed a hut trip to cameron pass instead of red mountain. this was a couple weeks ago, literally a few days before you started getting snow. Glad to see it adding up finally!

The slope had slid after the previous storm naturally, so we were able to get after it a bit. Still staying below treeline and in manageable terrain.

anybody get out lately? I did a day at keystone last saturday then a yurt trip for 3 days out by cameron pass and let me say that area is GETTING snow!!! 10" reported for CP on sunday but near clark peak yurt it was more like 18"! the snow being so fresh and not settled at all really killed our ability to go up high and find rideable pitch for that much snow. Place has ALOT of potential though. Cant wait to go back out that way.


COLORADO's getting snow!!

Oh yeah I've been out. Did snowmosplitboarding on Saturday in the La Platas, with 6" turning into 12" of fluff by end of day. I have a few pictures but haven't had the time to upload them. Then I got out at Wolf Creek for 24" in 24 hours, and I must say, one of the deepest days of my life. So good. Getting out again this weekend, its stacking up!

Yep, been getting my powder turns in at James Peak Wilderness and Caribou (yesterday), and it's been good! Lot's of wind yesterday and today making for miserable conditions above treeline, but powder is piling up nicely in the trees. Finally got into this 20 foot in diameter natural half-pipe/avy chute (NW aspect) that I've been watching from across the valley, and it was deep and soft.
Snowpack still highly variable and discontinuous, but no new avalanches seen this week. If we could just get a good storm with calm winds, a lot of good terrain above treeline should start working well.
