So I've come back round to appreciating what the K-clips can do for a board, but I feel like they are a pain in the ass as far aligning the board, especially with the swallowtails.
Anyways, I don't have the equipment to make something like this, but I'd certainly be interested if anyone is, or has been thinking about building a hybrid latching yin-yang clip.

I don't think this would work snurfer, the clips would pull the chinese hooks out of alignment

I'm not gonna give up quite that easily, but perhaps I'll go back to using a combination of one of each type, with the Voile style in the swallowtail crotch.

I don't see how you can pull the two halves apart. If you try to twist the hooks are going to bind on each other. You would have to place/pull the boards halves together from the top down.

Hmm? I don't think so. The Voile hooks have to slide together (e.g. "top down") and that is precisely what I'm after, something to hold the board together through friction. The the K-clips lack this and the board halves are just floating in space and this sucks in wind, etc... Here is another illustration with the hooks turned just as one would do wit the Voile hooks.

right, Burton is saying that there's no metal on the flat part to support the bent-up metal for the clasp to sit on.

I think you could avoid the tendency for the clips to rotate also by lining up the pulling force of the buckle straight in line with the mounting holes. you'd have to make each piece wider.

Good point, I thought about that, but was lazy in my illustration.
Def going to apply this suggestion as i refine the idea.
