They will be selling the Tesla baseplates in a kit with brackets and heel plates. You will be able to swap heel cup and straps from your Burner/blazes. Holy shit. Will

^Hah shredlife just said same. So sick.

I've got two sets of size large and one size small bindings to convert plus 5 freaking decks sporting LT hardware. It's still gonna be expensive.

But a classy move in any case. Thanks Spark!

burton has always been corpo primarily driven by profits - which is the same m.o. as every other equipment manufacturer (incl those you love). dissing them for that is silly and naive.

Actually, your statement is untrue and invalid. I have worked in small business manufacturing for many years. The companies which make the best product, are almost always concerned with the quality of the product first, and profits second. I am not suggesting some kind of ridiculous model where business concerns are entirely avoided; what I do believe (and have seen to be true by direct experience) is that when financial concerns are the top priority, the resulting product suffers enormously. ...

I would wager this is true in just about every industry. It certainly is true in the medical device industry I work in. Financial decisions in corporations are made by people who are many levels removed from the product and the customer.

That being said, I'm not a Burton hater, but all of my resort boards except one Never Summer have been Burton. In the past 17 years I have noticed a drop in quality. I'm not sure I'll buy another ever again.

Incase anyone missed it, the Edison system is pretty much dead.

Over the Edison protoypes we showed last year, the Tesla bindings are easier to use, more snow tolerant, and less expensive and complicated to manufacture. We will not be continuing further Edison development; the Tesla delivers everything we need and more for all around splitboard performance.

One of the cool promises from the Edison concept was for easy DIY boards using the existing 4x4 inserts. Oh well.

exactly, the Edison system will not see the light. Will mentioned that the system had issues when being on the mountains, so they decided to not release it, and take the good things they developed and adapted to their binginds creating the Tesla system.
I think it's a very wise move from Spark, if something doesn't work in the mountains, don't release it.
Many brands should learn this lesson...

about the Tesla system, I have been using the After Burner this whole weekend, and they are great! much faster and easier than the pin system, and so easy to install the crampons, even though I didn't need them... video coming soon!

Does anyone know what the anticipated retail prices will be for the magneto bindings and the tesla adaptor kits?

From what I understand the main problem with the Edison was that it was not self clearing of snow packed on the interfaced. You would pack it down and make it worse. So you had to clean that bitch quite a bit. Where as the Voile pucks are fairly easy to get bindings on even caked with snow.

I got a hunch Will is going to come up with a tweaked interface that addresses these issues. You just got to give the guy a little time.

Just in case you haven't checked the catalog yet--there will be an upgrade option for the current spark users. I'm not sure it will be all that much cheaper as you are mostly only using the straps and high back, but I love that they offer that!

Way to go Will!

Matt

I just occurred to me that some splitters may not be aware of all the new product pics I've been posting to IG and FB.

You can check Instagram even without an iOS device here: http://instagram.com/splitboard_com

And of course FB here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/splitboardcom/45914273520
