My buddy and I are hoping to take a Level 1 course early next year. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific one for the Tahoe area, or are they all pretty much the same?

We are currently thinking the REI one simply because they split it into two weekends.

a lot of people recommend the local community college: http://sierraavalanchecenter.org/node/183 because of the price, however you are in the valley and not on slope. I paid a bit more to get my Aiare level 1 over at Expedition Kirkwood: but I was on snow all three days. 4 hours in the class, 4 hours on the hill. (http://expedition.kirkwood.com/education#av) 300.00 at E:K, not sure about the LTCC but it's apparently a lot cheaper.
