You could try to re-tap it with a M6 tap to clean it up. I keep one handy, because of cross-threaded inserts and over-drilled inserts from the factory.
If its too far gone you could try a helicoil to a larger screw and thread. Take it to a good ski shop and ask them.
You may think about just epoxying it; depending if you need to ever unscrew it, (EG: touring or heels)

There isnt enough meat in an insert for a helicoil, you would have nothing left after you drilled it unfortunately. This is oddball but you could possible get an M7x1.0 tap and try converting it to M7 (may or may not work lol)

Thanks for all the suggestions. Its one of the climbinb wire inserts and I normally swap between hb and sb setus so epoxy is out. Oh and its a borrowed prototype (sorry Al). Think Ill check with a buddies shop.
