I was really surprised at the good snow quality today, really fun turns and stable. Winds were off and on today seemed to taper off a bit later in the afternoon.

Good work Dave! I bet the riding is good right now. Way to get after it.

quicky up on figure 8 hill today. it was fun, but lots of rocks. seemed really cold today. Nice to see some snow and colder temps.

Found really good snow today, 8-12+ in most places. Skinning was pleasant, and really only felt the crust on E and S facing lines which still rode really good. Was hitting heli terrain while we still can, coverage seemed really good for this time of year. Dug a pit NW facing 9K or so in the trees. Crust facet crust just below the new. Snow was too light density to bother with, got one cool shovel tilt result at about 8 taps on the upper crust but couldn't get it again. Bottom was suction cupped to the ground. Not sure what will happen with the crust facet crust sandwich but it will take a bit more weight to see. Take Care.

White Pine elv. apx. 10200 Aspect W/SW Tri-Chutes... Found a supportable windboard layer with all the new snow from the recent storms sitting on top and about 6 inches of facets underneath the windboard. No shooting cracks or collapsing. Isolating a column and a compression test produced bad results with the column failing on average 5-7 and popping out with some energy.

Although I dont think this is very representative of the windboard/crust's actual strength in supporting the new snow, meaning that it was probably more stable than the tests indicated, but because by isolating that windboard layer into a square column you significantly weaken it....right? how do you objectively test the bridging capacity of a snow layer over a weak layer? anyways all signs said no go.
