As much as I want (need?) a Unicorn Chaser, Trout Trap, Whale and a Hovercraft, I also need to fill my cupboards with ramen and ravioli so in my usual dirtbag fashion, cutting another board in half. Always wanted a Fish, finally found one, the 164 with the cutout tail. Bangerang! I don't know how this fits in the quiver with the 172 Rome Notch Swallowtail.... deep days and deeper days?

At least the channel should be easier to cut through than those damn t-nuts. Maybe snip a little off the tail end instead of that half assed little dip. Not sure why they bother with it, the board is already directional so why not cut a real notch into the tail. Not sure where the cut off line would be to get back on the 72. Somewhere around armpit deep I guess.

No updates as of yet, still on the hunt for shop space & drill press (got to spend Thanksgiving rebuilding my truck instead).

I think it's gonna make for a lighter and slightly more versatile daily driver. The Notch pretty much has one speed, stupid fast. And it's terrible for alder bashing in early January. The more I think about it, the cutoff will likely have more to do with terrain and elevation rather than if I'm dealing with blower or bottomless pow.

There's a Bataleon as well that my friend who is lending me the basement space is putting together as his first split. I'll try and get some photos of that up, as well as his BADASS home pressed noboard!

how easy was it to cut through the channel and seal it up

The channel was no problem, it's pretty much two thin aluminum plates separated by a chunk of plastic (think Spark Ignition baseplates). What is really neat is that surrounding each channel is an insert of some darker hardwood than the (aspen?) used in the rest of core. Maple or something? And the profiling on the tip and tail is radical. People can slag Burton all they want but on their high end boards the attention to detail is amazing. I'll get some photos of the core & channels tomorrow. It's pretty cool dissecting snowboard construction.

Filling the channel with G-flex was a bit more problematic, though I could have eased up on the hardener to give it more time to fill in the gaps underneath the top sheet. I'll fill in any gaps/airbubble tomorrow. Also, got quite a bit of chipping in the epoxy. Perhaps cutting before filling the channel would work better?

I would love to see his noboard and press! The fishy looks like it will be fun. I am trying to find a malolo to split.

The Fillet'O'Fish is indeed super light on the way up. No scale so I can't run exact numbers, but pretty significant anyways, first thing I noticed skinning. Definitely a different kind of powder board. Very quick edge to edge & nimble, just what I was hoping for. Great for the tight trees of the Rossland Range. Next time it dumps here, gonna break out the Whitewave Pads.
