I'm surprised the UAC hasn't been more excited about this storm. I think the upper cottonwoods will get close to 2 inches of water by late Monday. Good base builder too. The 8500' snow level is a little high but I'l take it. Oh yeah and the 80-100 mph winds forecast for the ridges on Sunday.

Yesterday, I skinned, booted, or suffered up Toledo Bowl as best as I could. The wind really hammered the south facing stuff. We dropped into the North side in Holy Toledo.

Snow was soft for the most part.

We then skinned around hit a couple other areas on that side of the ridge and then went over to Cardiff to check out a chute we saw at the beginning of the day. In the chute it was dust on a 2.5" crust or so.

It was overall a fun day though.

I'm curious, how widespread was surface faceting in Cardiff?

Got out for a quick tour up Grizzly before work today. Not sure where the inch that fell overnight went. Surprisingly, there was not that much graupel around. With Alta getting 0.35 in an hour last night I was sure there would be a lot of graupel. Wind effect wasn't as bad as expected. The low angle N facing was fast and smooth. SE facing off Black Bess was sometimes deep enough to keep you off the crust. The lines down to Twin Lakes looked good, but the temptation was resistable.

Thanks Doug! It wasn't bad in terms of surface faceting. When you dug down though underneath the thick sun/heat crust faceting was pretty widespread. Looking forward to getting out next weekend and see what has changed since the new and predicted snow will add some weight.
