I want a 3 piece split if for no other reason than easier traverses on steeps. I followed a couple of partners up the White Salmon glacier and both of them were on mountaineering skis. I might as well have been breaking trail the entire time since my skin track was easily 1/2 again as wide as theirs.

Do anyone have a link to that picture of a 3 piece-splitter made out of 2 randoneeskis. I'm trying to fint 3 old rockerskis to make my own 3 or 4 piece splitboard. I guess some soft flex womens powderskis like Line Pandora would work. I would allso like to se a picture of a 4 piece splitboard?

Wouldn't want to convert that on a steep slope, but most of the time i can find a relatively flat spot. Traverseing would still be difficult with out inside edges.

@ gunnar
this time i build a 3 pice board with short inside edges , and a rocker shape, because between the feet it is a littel camber. in europa you need this camber ... importand is a stiffy center in the climbing up, at bindings center of the ski, steel edges helps and the camber.... when you cut a serial board to a 3 pice you have trubbel in climbing up... with a skiboard the climbing up is great but the down ride is a gun shot.

Well, I guess the ride down depends heavily on what type of skis the board is based on. Enough soft rocker in both ends (or along the whole ski/board, as on Volkl Nunataq, ) should make the ride more nimble then with old clambered skis and an open and traight swallowtail
The concept worked very well for me. I dumped the clicker binding version however and use AT boots only. I plan to build a new 4 piece in December; main target is to reduce weight.

Instead of the 3 pc splitter, why not just make an up-to-date version of the Voile Split Decision? Perhaps it is time to look at renewing the Split Decision. Now that skis are so fat and materials, like carbon fiber are used in skis and snowboards. which have improved torsional stiffness since the Split Decision first came out.
