Yeah I wanna hit up heather ridge

let me know what the conditions are like. I really want to get out there, but I cant mid week. Might try to go up saturday if the weather stays cold and snowy (they are predicting the snow level to rise and possible rain).

Sorry. Jumped the gun. Forgot I had something to do wednesday.

I don't think heather has enough snow to be ridable yet. Usually right about when the lifts are ready to open. I was just going to skin inbounds with my dog... pre-season ritual thing.

Is there a reasonable base at Stevens? I'm gonna get some turns in one day this week...not sure where yet.

I havent been too vocal on here as I'm waiting to get out splitting until after I take the avy course and get a little bit of side country experience, but if any one wants to hit up baker opening weekend, I'd love to meet up with some people for in bounds riding.

It looks like thanksgiving or shortly thereafter could be a possibility.

Sure on high avy danger days I was thinking of just skinning up past the first lifts and riding Stevens backside for the day.

No saign. There was no snow in the stevens area that survived the warm up. Just a foot +/- of what could end up being a great base depending. Notjing worth making a trip for.

I went to do some forrest rd skinning east of the pass with kololo at noon. Ended up going up the rock mt trail to the ridge just beyond the artillery area sign..... maybe a foot on nothing there too. Nothing ridable, but a cool inverse day above the clouds. Lines in rock bowl looked possible.

Re skinning inbounds at stevens... the don't allow it.

Ya, I went to Muir today, Snow was deep and firm. Couple feet to the parking lot. Lightly wind buffed up top. Turned out to be a bluebird day I'm pretty stoked

Were you able to board all the way back to the parking lot? I know some people who are talking about going up this weekend (weather depending). I'm wanting to hold out til I can board all the way back down...

Ya, the snow was 18"-24" at the lot, and deeper as you got higher. The precipitation it has got yesterday was wet, last night was light and this morning was wet. It had a pretty solid crust on it as the sun was going down. Probably not a good situation for avy danger on low elevation steeper slopes, as it's pretty soft underneath the crust to the ground from the first wave of the storm that was cold . Hopefully it will bond well and turn into a bulletproof base.

But ya I rode to the lot and didn't hit any rocks below pebble creek.

Thats pretty much what I was expecting. What you just said combined with the 100% chance of snow saturday/sunday mean Rainier is pretty much out this weekend. Baker area it is!

The only area I would worry about going up to muir would be where the summer trail switchbacks before panorama point. Unless you try and hit some of the steeper slopes down low. Baker will probably have a similar set of layers as the same set of storms hit there as well. We just got more farther south. I'm not saying it's dangerous, but could be. I didn't do any tests, just observations going up and down. It could consolidate and be a great base. You just need to know how to assess the snow pack.
