Anyone gotten out yet? Starting to get pretty psyched. Put together a little photo compilation of a bunch of different southwest Montana areas from various posts on my site if anyone wants to check it out. http://mtsplitski.wordpress.com/2012/10 ... ly-season/

Saw that. Glad everyone's OK. Just issuing a friendly reminder that early season in SW Montana is especially hazardous. Combining the weak snowpack, low coverage and the unbearable psyche of the masses to get out and shred (especially in the north Bridgers since you can usually still drive your car a good ways up into there) is pretty much a recipe for disaster! Here's the GNFAC report for anyone interested: http://www.mtavalanche.com/images/12/av ... l-overview

Just wanted to share a sweet southwest Montana weather resource that my friend Casey devised: http://winter.junkfunnel.com/
It basically compiles the data from all the snotels and mountain weather stations for the mountain ranges of southwest Montana and displays them on one page, in an easy-to-read graph. Definitely saves me some time from going between bookmarks. Enjoy!

Facebook/Twitter page for Southwest Montana Winter Weather is up, just in the nick of time! It'll update twice a day, with thresholds for new snow (>1"), high wind(>20mph), and cold temps (<0). Give 'er a like! http://www.facebook.com/SouthwestMontan ... er?fref=ts

Hey all. New to the site and splitting. I've been snowboarding for 15 years, slowshoeing and a boot packing for 4 years so I'm not a complete novice in the BC but expect to get out more with appropriate equipment now. Haven't really seen much BC in MT since moving here 2 years ago and didn't get out at all last year due to the crazy snow pack, general demotivation and again equipment. Looking forward to meeting someone of you and contributing in the discussion here. To that end this looks to be a major storm rolling in...
Anyone seen what the old snow has done the past couple weeks? I'm optimistic the warmer temperatures aided the creation a strong base layer for the future snow to sit on, but I don't have any on snow time substantiate these hopes.
