If the forum rookie at Grassroots could figure out how to post an image he would. It has been pretty good in N Utah for only one dump.. light dry and bottomless. Scrapin a little dirt here and there. Much better off on a powsurfer than snowboard IMHO because of surface area and float potential ..I might be a little biased
I got out yesterday to snowbasin. Hit the upper parking lot about 930, it was dumping snow. probably 2.5 feet in spots at that elevation. Trail breaking the first 1/4 mile wasn't a very nice intro to the season. (boy am I out of shape) Then the snowcats made their way up and I caught onto there tracks. Made it to the upper lodge in no time after that. Boy was it DEEP. I would put it at 40 inches with drifts to 50. I was wishing I had some steeper slopes, with not much base and whisper light snow It was rough going on the low angles. Over all got some NICE face shots. Not a bad way to start out the season.
Headed back up to Snowbasin Thursday night for some winter camping and moonlight riding. They also received some additional snowfall and Friday was going to be bluebird. It was a spectacular night, calm, almost full moon which gave plenty of light to ride, but I've been wanting to test out my 600 lumin mtnbike lights to see how they would work for the ride down, I think night riding just became a viable option.
Here's some stoke: (I like photos)
6:45 early rise...view from tent city Above a bed of clouds On our way... CLOSER: Snowbasin Mej Dropping The clock is ticking Mar123, another lap... packing up for the homerun... Hey Bucky!!
For weekend warriors If your looking for some turns IMO It would be worth your while to head up Saturday, the snow is deep!! Probably will have to be more picky on which aspect to get on, anything but northerly facing aspects will most likely have a crust. Plenty of goods still left.
I thought I saw a few guys slogging their way up the steep stuff on the john paul side. I almost considered catching on to your skin tracks but I was a bit to tired from going up top. Was it as deep over there as it was below middle bowl?
I may try and get out on sunday and see what things are like, supposed to be pretty warm for the next few days so we will see what temps do between now and then.
