Hi I am new here, new to splitboarding and need a little advice. I just picked up to Voile DIY split and am ready to get started, but I am unsure if the board I have chosen is appropriate or not.
It is a 20 year old Sims Ace 175 that has never been used. It is super stiff with a traditional camber profile. I feel like it would be a great powder board, but I am not sure if the length will affect my touring experience. I am also slightly concerned with the tail profile. I don't have any pictures at the moment, but the board can be seen here: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?34071-Trade-Vintage-Sims-Ace-175-board-for. Will the tail affect my ability to properly skin the board?
i have 185 fischer bc skis, they work great, 175 would make a short diy swallow-tail go for it. I saw the pics, i would cut the tail symetrically , i did a diy swallow-tail (170 K2 nemisis) i t rides great.

Would you recommend cutting the tail before or after splitting it?
Edit: Also do you have a post for your DIY project?
I'm to lazy to post pics or look up the old threads but their have been many good examples posted here. Yes i would pre-cut the rear. wow "Taylor"....... that dudes huge
awww, leave the tail alone, it's what makes that board unique, and boards from that era have lot more nose length, not unlike the "brand new early rise" made today so they aren't as long on packed snow and give you great lift up front. For what its worth my wife (115lb) really enjoyed the Wasatch for a few seasons on an old santa cruz 172, (no she wasn't throwing 3s . . or 4s or 5s . . .) which when you look at the long nose and tail was more like a 164 or something in today's shapes. That sims isn't so stiff really from a freeride perspective and it is only a 175 because the sidecuts are offset, forward on the toe side, back on the heel side, the edge length is like a shorter board
