 Post subject: Garmin Edge 800 for splitting?

There are some good deals on the Garmin Edge 800 at the moment. I've been contemplating a GPS for cycling but I would also like to be able to use it when snowboarding/hiking. Anybody using an Edge 800?

I appreciate it will have a lot of bike specific features, but I'd just be just looking for something that could:

track routes as I go,
pre programme routes before I go, and
point me in the right direction home.
