barrows,

Train? How? Post up here for an update of how you are training right before season the starts.

I bet the Boulder showing will be a hit.

I think I did post in that thread... In any case, I keep in pretty good aerobic shape throughout the summer with cycling. In the fall, I like to start doing some steep hiking. We are lucky to have very steep trails in Boulder, with lots of rock steps, and I like to power hike these. I prefer to keep the knee strain to a minimum, so I do not actually like to run the trails, but these trails are so steep, that one can really get a great workout power hiking them. The steep hiking, on uneven ground, really helps my muscles transition from the single dimension stress of cycling, to the multiple dimension stress of skinning/riding. It is especially good for strengthening the ankles and feet, and stabilising the joints.
I also do a little bit of skateboarding on the roads, just for a little balance tuning.

Glad I was mistaken! The Further showings in Denver were a hit. Huge crowds at both showings.

I went to the 9pm viewing and it was packed. No hype, instead (to take from surf movie lingo) all in the theater were "stoked".

The man himself was there, Jeremy Jones, for a quick talk before the movie. Cool dude to say the least.

Best snowboard movie premier in Denver this year. They even gave away a Jones split.

If you missed it in Denver, catch Further showings tonight in Boulder or Sat in Ft Collins or Pueblo on 10/17 or Breck 10/20 or Golden 11/22 or other CO dates. Check for VT, WA, etc

Barrows, random questions for you:

How tall are you, and how much do you weigh? Any idea on what your body fat percentage is? What kind of nutrition do you get? Calories, composition, etc..? When you train, how do you feel? Is there "pop" in your movements? How often and how long do you train for? Do you get any anaerobic strength / power work in? I'm asking because I'm an exercise physiologist...

I am 6'1", about 170 lbs. Have not had the body fat measured in many, many, many years now. It measured pretty low back when I was young, single digit as I recall, but more than 3% for sure!
Now I have much more fat, as I am middle aged, and it is virtually impossible to stay that lean at my age. I hate the gym, and the only time I have weight trained is when coming back from a knee 'scope. But I get anaerobic training on the MTB with steep punchy climbs and the occasional sprint.
The steep trail hiking can be much like doing power work, if one does it as intervals, which I do, but only very occasionally. One loses power and fast twitch stuff as one ages, but I ride smooth these days, and I do not freestyle ride at all, so it is not a big deal for me...
95% of splitting is aerobic (skinning) and the other 5% is best trained by doing steep short laps on the lifts... cannot bear to do that much though, but if I really feel the need, I'll go out to a short steep run and do hop turns until my quads cannot anymore...

burrows is da man keeping in shape while keeping it fun.

Russman, I also hate the gym worse than anyone else but my CrossFit gym got me back into shape. At age 47 (now 49) I lost 40 lbs doing CrossFit and a modified Paleo diet. My BMi and cholesterol as well as my BP were trending bad until CrossFit. I'm now basically where I need to be in every medical fitness test.

CrossFit is so laid back yet so freaking intense. It is all in your head and scaled to your ability. At first looking into it I thought CrossFit was a bit cultish but after getting involved it really is no more cultish than snowboarding.

You guys should start your own thread, or better yet use the fitness thread!!!!

Saw Further in Denver Thursday and it was a great movie. I always enjoy going to see snowboard/ski movies, they are the ONLY movies I watch in the theaters.

BTW: Talked to JJ at the show and he promised me that there is no shenanigans regarding the DVD release. They are no more in control than you or I. On a side note he (and I) were clowning on you guys for being so aggro and writing about conspiracy theories regarding "milking" the tour. I did however defend SB.com saying you (we) are mostly good people and can get a little uppidy waiting for the snow to fall. Were no TGR!

Cheers,

Delfeugo out!

Stoked, I saw Further last night and it was awesome! Talk about remote places, they were pretty well geared up sledding or flying in to base camp then some big day missions, in fact sometimes they were going 24x7 in the northern 24hr sunlight, oh yeah I'll get up at midnight and go for a wander, what???. Some big terrain and great riding, congrats JJ on an epic movie, there was a good crew in Christchurch NZ to see it, great to see you guys really showing what splitboarding can bring - and a few dudes climbing steep slopes on the Verts too eh.
