I love angry skiers.
Rumor has it that Alta, among all the ski areas in the United States, has the best garbage cans and picnic tables for jibbing, the best lift towers and skier jackets for tagging and absolutely the world's very finest "champagne" powder for side-slipping.
I've also heard about the previous litigation that Burton brought against the USFS over this. If anyone has any information on that litigation please send me a PM. I'm involved in a lot of litigation against the USFS in my day job and am very interested in exploring this sort of litigation with others as a personal endeavor.
It'd be worth beating the FS in court just to make the angry skiers even angrier. Imagine how mad they'd get... So damn funny.

Anyone involved with poaching Alta from out of bounds? Or is it better to just go straight up in the dark? I need something to do after Mad River Glen, Poach It If You Can this winter.

It is super easy to poach. You can come from Snowbird and a short walk you are at Alta. Also you can skin up Grizzly Gulch and drop in as well. I personally haven't poached it since there is so much better snow in that area than riding a resort.

Seems like time is ripe for a full on assault on that place. Like 300 splitters on their best powder day. Drop trow as they approach the lodge - in unison. Maybe leave a steamer or 2 in the parking lot. Maybe even form the steamers into a big heart.
