First skateboard was a Sims Flagship, Gull wing trucks and some red T&C Wheels. Rode street and ditches until we found a half-pipe. We rode ramp until kids started skating in jeans, low-top sneakers and kick flipping handrails. Bailed after that but discovered snowboarding shortly after that. Been downhill ever since. Recently started skating again and by God, kids still skate in jeans! Never understood this. Too damn hot and restrictive. Gimmie an old pair of Jimmy-Z and let's roll! Long story short, thank you Mr. Sims, for providing me with the tools to discover and live a dream. RIP.
I actually got to meet Tom Sims at the Munich ISPO trade show in the mid 90ies. I felt totally "unworthy", but he was super friendly and took his time talking to us. I still have a hand signed poster from that show.
