I talked to that guy about the incident in question. He maintains that he was "product testing", to ensure the integrity of the Chimera board and Karakoram bindings during a tomahawk. You want to be able to pop right up at the end of that shit and ride out like you meant to do it, which he claims is what he did. He also says that the picture is misleading, and makes it look practically flat. He sent another picture for reference. The slope in question is directly above TEX (who appears to be doing yoga or something) in this photo:

edit to add- actually I was laughing my ass off watching one of the best tomahawks I ever seen.

Looks like a TomBurtaHawk. But of course it isn't.
