Hi guys.
That fuberg looks very interesting to me.
But i got some questions about it. 1. well, i'm 230 lbs rider with US13 feet, now i use NS legacy 174 with 31.8-27-31.8 geometry 8.3M radius. Fuberg have the same waist, but the tips are 279 and 290. And the board itself is 1 cm shorter. That doesn't dooks promising to me. Also in a poing where i mount my binders fuberg will be probably narrower then my Legacy. Any opinions on this? If it only was something like 180W fuberg with 31.0-29.0-30.0 and 18M geometry.
2. NExt one: 16M radius sounds very sweet, once you have a carve board. If it possible to carve fuberg? Not that lay-down turns like i can do with my prior, but some pencil wide paths from me. I suggest it wont hold edge very well on a hardpack because of a rocker.
1. You are right, the 173 furberg is not going to be wide enough for your feet. I have a 173, and I have 28 mondo boots, the width is perfect for me, and about the same at the foot positions as my 26 cm waist Venture Storm.
2. The furberg is designed as a board for off piste riding, not for riding groomed snow at a resort. That said, it actually carves GS and above radius turns quite well, and has lots of edge grip in longer radius turns. The rocker between the feet actually helps the edge grip: consider that the edge between your feet receives less pressure from your feet because of the distance of the foot away from the center of the board. Rocker between the feet brings back the edge pressure, making the pressure more evenly distributed. That said, the furberg is designed for off piste free riding, it will get around fine on groomers on the way to the good stuff, but if you are looking specifically for a board for carving on packed snow, get a board designed for that purpose.

Brooks and Chris:
furbergs ride very short, especially in powder. Consider that the effective edge is very short for a given length, combined with the taper and rocker, I do not think either of you would be dissappointed in the 167.
For example, my furberg 173 is just as manuverable as my 166 Venture (in powder snow), perhaps even more manuverable because of the considerable advantage in float. At 6'1" I have no problems with the 173 in tight tree riding...

hmmm, I heard rumors a splitboard mfg outta Utah is coming out with a furberg type board this season. I may wait and see what sizes they're offering although I think I could do a 167 since I'd only be riding it in pow and would want the extra float anyway.

"working name is the 'DumDum', the 160 is 277mm with a 17m sidecut and 12mm taper, the 168 likely to be 280mm+ with a 20m sidecut" - from Alister at Chimera, new board for this season
