I know these are pretty new but any thoughts on them? Would think that anything steep enough that I'm not skinning, I'm either boot packing, technical climbing or using Mr. Chomps.
It seems like a grey area that's not worth the weight. One of the reason's I started splitting was to get AWAY from snowshoes.
Any thoughts? As the season starts I'm a little curious.

Sparks are the only way to fly when trying to get up steep, soft terrain. They fit in my pack when I get to the top and I can ride my solid board.
The Spark versions are cool, but I like the ones with a separate binding personally. The bindings weigh nothing, and you can still haul a solid board with you or your split.
Bottom line, Verts are a very useful back country tool.
Anything you're climbing with Verts you're not going to be able to climb with regular snowshoes. The hinge on a regular snowshoe decreases your leverage and even if you tried to side hill it, you'd quickly wash out. If you have a short, steep shot, then boot packing it makes sense. I you have a long sustained slope that is deep, then there is no substitute for the Verts and worth the weight.
I was sad to sell my original pair that I mounted up with a hacked clicker system back in the day, but stoked Sparks brought them back. Of course I haven't used them since there was no snow in Tahoe last year, but I'm still happy I have them. I sure as hell could've used them on Shasta last month in the baking snow.
