So after seeing all the TRs on here, I had to get up to Adams. Jefe009 filled me in on some details over a beer, and the next day my buddy called up out of the blue, asking if I wanted to climb Adams. It was on.
Adams is still looking good, hopefully a couple more weeks of decent SW chutes riding, though the sun cups on the South Route were getting big.
We got to the parking lot around 10pm on Friday to find it packed with cars jammed everywhere. Found a spot, went to sleep, and on the trail at 6am.
Made it to the Lunch Counter by 9.
Things started warming up and hazards started sliding down the mountain
But it does look at least fun for a little bit.
Made it to the summit by noon. Adams sure is one big, long, slog of a hike. Cool moment, a woman asked me to take her picture with her film camera. It was her 76th birthday. She told me this might be her last big climb, I told her she no doubt had plenty more. I hope I can make it to the parking lot when I'm 76...
So we rode down from the summit, which was some horrible, choppy, manky crud. Had to ride off the summit, though.
Looking down the SW Chute. This picture has about 5000+ feet of vert in it. We rode all the way to the last bit of snow in the upper left.
Shredding the chute! It was getting a bit choppy, but still very nice.
We lucked out and a local guy came skiing down the chute. He told us about the route out, and offered to show us the way. Without him, I never would've gone the way we did. We just ended up bushwhacking a few hundred feet down the stream, and there was the trail.
