This is mainly a conditions report. No riding shots...

I've had SnowDome on my mind for many weeks. And I was hoping that the weather would hold for a 4th of July day trip. As most north westerner's know summer usually starts the day after the 4th of July. This year summer started a day earlier. We left the Tilly Jane Trailhead, 3800, at 715am. The Could Cap road is still closed. Time to go to work.

The crew was Chris Bennells, one of his buddies from Next Adventure, and myself.


We hiked up to the Tilly Jane A Frame. Stashed some unneeded gear at the A Frame. Snowline is about 6000 feet. We started skinning here but there was definitely some places where we had to walk. Like navigating through a ridge of loose rock. Once we got through this it was snow all the way.


You would just have to maneuver around and between features like these two:


And pay attention to so you don't fall into the mountain...

This was the ultimate goal for the day: Snowdome (bench like feature on middle right of shot)!

The first 1500 feet of the descent was great riding. Soft but not too soft. And you got to ride by these features:


And ultimately ride to about 6700. The snow was a little sticky, but it's summer, right?

We boogied down the trail and were back at the car by 330pm. Ended a great 4th of July at Jefe009's BBQ and took in the scene that is Portland Fireworks Show on the 4th. Great day!

i ended up walking home a good 3 miles later that night after watching them fireworks.

Very awesome! The big, glaciated, volcanoes are just something so special.
