 I love burton's english! I reckon you guys missed his point and attitude. I believe it was that in a diy split, you already have inserts on the inside of the skis where there is the best leverage to rock that half of the board up on edge. A pair of ski screws is all you need on the outside edge, but they probably are not even necessary. The hassle is you have to cut out your own longer pucks out of UHMW or whatever. The only reason to add full strength inserts is to have stance adjustablity/perhaps resale value.

burton has shared a lot cool ideas on the forum and has executed them. I love the carbon slider tracks! I have been thinking about making a 15"-16" wide board for blower days in Utah, and a triple is clearly the way to go. Less snow on the deck, the ability traverse scoured ridges, and less weight of the skins. I would say that the triple is an excellent approach to the Alps, front range of CO, Alaska, where you see a lot of above treeline, hard, damaged snow enroute to the good stuff. :thatrocks:
