I recently picked up a new 2012-13 T.Rice 164.5 split from bc.com, and when it showed up I noticed about a 1mm gap between the two sections when set up in ride mode. The top and bottom of the board seem fine, but the gap is most pronounced in the center. Just wondering if anyone who has this board can tell me if this is normal? It's not a lot of space, but definitely more than my Venture Storm 160 I rode before this.. Makes me nervous about how it will perform on firmer conditions, which I tend to ride often. Perhaps adding another K-clip int he center would tighten it up? Hate to add weight to a seemingly light board, however. the two pics attached show the gap at the top of the board and at the center. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If the interior sidewall isn't perfectly perpendicular to the base, you may see a gap at the topsheet even though the base edges enjoy full contact. Drawing that gap together with K clips can just lead to hulling of the board. Or maybe not. It depends on the shape of the sidewall.

Just accept that nothing fits together like a Venture.

Right on, thanks Philip. The gap is also visible at the base edges, not just the topsheet, so I'm assuming there won't be full contact there?

I guess I was spoiled with the perfect fit of the venture.

philip's second comment is the key here. Few boards, if any, fit as tightly together as Ventures. Too bad most other board companies cannot build splits as precisely as Venture does...

While its not pretty, I would not sweat it. I ride a lot of firm stuff too, here in thermo-cycled coastal AK. Lots of rain and wind crust, if not downright rhino-hide and boilerplate ice. Even my gappy boards ride that stuff fine. What you need is good edge contact and the knowledge how to use it. You sound experienced.
