Just curious? I have not heard anyone else mention this? If a 148CM rides like a 158cm, why dont they make a 158cm spliff that rides like a 168cm board? In our shallow, dry "shitty" Colorado snowpack, I am skeptical about that length of a board working as well as it would in the Sierra's or coastal snowpack? I would love to try one.

I am sold on the Magneto. Selling my Korakoram set up and cheepo quality Jones soluton to re-invest ASAP.

For me, I dont see much difference between this 148 and my Jones 164. How is vermonts snowpack? This was designed by Dave Downing. I think Dave rides the Sierra , and Alaska alot but I dont know about Colorado. But, as cold as it has been the Sierra this season has been performing much like the Utah, Colorado snowpack.........I mean if you can find snow

So you have 2 feet of powder on top of 2 feet of facets? I'm skeptical of this board in Colorado. I'd be stoked to try it though. My buddy has a Nug so its about the same, maybe I can take it out sometime.

I ride a 159 split and LOVE it, I can only imagine this thing is hella fun and you can slalom any tree line no matter how tight. but in the crusty open bowls id be watching my speed not pinning it.. fearing the woble of a short board might come into play. I ride Colorados sketchy snowpack too! for it goes like this-- if your not floating ITS TO FLAT.

I've got 3 days on the board now and I'm still trying to figure out if I like it. It has its squirrelly and unpredictable moments. My other boards turn plenty fast for any conditions I have found myself in, so the lack of stability and predictability seem like a liability right now, with no apparent upside other than light weight and maybe the novelty of being on a mini sled.

Interesting. Different strokes for different folks I guess. My experience with it is a lot different. It does not feel unstable to me. I've ridden plenty of longer boards that felt more unstable. Now comparing to wide boards, and particularly NS and Venture (which in my experience are generally extra damp/stable), yeah maybe it will feel a bit squirelly. But so far compared to my Jones Solution 164 (not wide) I have just not seem much difference. Need to do more comparison, but just that discovery alone based on a short amount of time is pretty interesting to me.

Heading up to Baker for the splitfest, and it just duuuumped up there, so it will be interesting to see how the Spliff does. I figure it should be fine as long as someone else breaks trail.

Couple more points:

- It's not a Nug. It's similar, but the Spliff is S-rocker which is a major difference. It's basically full camber except for an early-rise nose.

- It's actually not all that light. Yeah, it's lighter than most 160-ish boards, but WTF you'd expect that since it's only a 148! For its size, it's not actually that light. But yeah it's lighter than my longer board, and the new skins I just cut shaved about 1/3 lb off the weight as well. Which is cool because it means I can offset that with Fitwells.

Still scratching my head over this board. Today we went out in a coastal AK blizzard. There was about 8" of new snow that had fallen. The wind had made drifts and deeper pockets of pow, and the vis was marginal. We did some low-angle laps as we had found an easily-sheared layer in the new snow so steeper stuff seemed ill-advised until the storm blew by. When I hit deeper pockets, the Spliff just seemed to plow into them rather than float. A friend of mine (about the same weight) on a Voile RX 166 easily out-glided me on flatter sections, and that NEVER happens (I wax regularly; he infrequently), seemingly a product of the Spliff pushing snow rather than generating float. I'm still waiting to perceive the engineering advantages the Burton marketing department claims for the board. I think I may put it away until we have consistent corn snow and see if it shines there. I'm not arguing against the experiences of other riders on this forum, but I'm not feeling the same love from this deck others seem to be. I sort of wished I had been on my Zephyr or NS SL today.

Continuing the tradition of hijacking the Spliff thread... as I was admiring your Photoshop skillz, I noticed you have the Pieps electronic clinometer. How do you like it? Thinking about getting one, MacLean raved about it on bc.com and I'm not in love with my compass' clinometer at all.
