Planning on building a splitboard this fall. Anyone ordered material from snowboard materials.com before? Or any other suppliers out there that people have dealt with...? I'm in Vancouver BC, looks like most of the specialized suppliers come out of the US, but if there is anything I can get locally that would be nice. Also, any info on wood core material selection would be helpful. Looks like a lot of the big companies use Aspen, I imagine there's a reason for that. Something tells me that it would be easy to make a board too stiff, especially if you start using Douglas fir or something in the cores.
i've ordered edges to add to the inside of my splits, everything ordered and shipped fine. Check out grafsnowboards.com forum and skibuilders.com for good info on board construction.
Most the stiffness comes from the fiberglass, not the core. The modulus of fir is similar to aspen or beach but the density is higher. Have you built your press yet, cost of a press it what is stopping me from building some boards. Material cost per board is not that bad. Supposedly getting your two split skis to mate nicely is harder than people think. Maybe try making a few solids boards first.
