Good turns today at Ptarmigan Cirque (highwood pass). A little thin, you can still see some grass sticking up. The 25cm last night sure helped, but we still had to stick to wind loaded meadow skipping
Hey guys, If anyone is heading to k-country next weekend drop me a pm...definitely want to head out and the forecast looks pretty good with low temps and snow!

Face shots in Highwood today fellas. -15 at the trailhead in the morning, -6 around 4pm. Cool temps kept the snow light and dry. The wind has been cooperative also. Pretty thin at lower elevation making skinning difficult in places (need to hike it at times to save edges and skins) and ski outs short. With another dump or two, all of the sharks should be covered. Lastly, the word is out, get there early. I counted close to 20 skiers today (mid week) so the weekends will likely be rammed.

Take a peek here at this terrible attempt of a video to see conditions. Watch it in HD because it's pretty grainy otherwise. Should give you an idea of what's available right now.
If anyone can help me embed this, that would be great.
As far as comments on the conditions - they were pretty solid. There is some obvious wind loading at the top of the bowl in spots but it wasn't reacting/producing results. As always, make your own assessment. I just hope we don't get a warm spell creating a funny layer for the rest of the season.
The snow is really good up top sitting on (I think) firn snowontop of glacial ice making for some really great turns. I actually dragged my hip and armpit on a few yesterday so the first hundred meters at least is amazing with no concern for hiding core shot trolls. There are sharks lurking from about halfway down though so be careful. You can probe with your pole from the skin track to see where its fat. It is possible to ski out through the first flats at the bottom of the cirque but its a crap shoot as far as rocks go. The wind has lightly deposited snow in some spots and others it can be thin. Still worth heading out and up for some laps.
