Anybody want to check out Lone Pine this weekend? I'd be coming up from LA on Friday night. I really want to get in to Horseshoe Meadow. (I don't know what is there to ski, but I wouldn't mind touring in to Cirque Lake, and maybe hitting some of the slopes up there.)

FYI, I'm a noob AT skier, so I'm interested in mellow, safe trips.

I just found out that the gate at the bottom of the Horseshoe Mdws road is still closed. Even if the road is clear to 8500'. But the Whitney Portal Rd is open. I'll look at the book tonight to see if there is something else there.

From what I hear, snowpack above 8500' is higher then normal and I can tell you from the thursday before the splitfest that the whitney trail is snow free for the first mile or so......

Plenty of good stuff up high after last weekend, see here and here.

I will be splitn out of the Portal area with a climbing friend on slow shoes. Should be a couple other climbing parties going up Meysan Lakes way for Irvine-McAdie traverse.
