The SLT ski lease starts this weekend and I'm headed up there with breadbox & others to ride BC on saturday and sunday. I heard an unconfirmed rumour that jimw is in on the ski lease and headed up this weekend, too. I don't know where we'll be riding yet...
Got out this morning. High ridgetop E/NE winds. Everything exposed facing NE (like top of Hourglass) got its snow stripped badly. Some thick wind slabs (2'+) in weird places like in the trees, but they seem to be bonding okay, but so be careful. I have my kids on Saturday, so won't be partaking...
Oh, and everything is getting tracked so quickly - lots of people out today.
Thanks, KS - I've been agonizing about it all day and 1/2 wishing that it arrived on Monday so I wouldn't have to make the call. Reread this to steel the nerves. But now I think I'll bring the FR66.
Rode Waterhouse dawn patrol with SLT Joe today, winds were rippin from N-NE at the top transporting a bunch of snow to the leeward sides. 15-18" of superlight freshness in the trees.
If you are looking for powder salvation from this cold front coming through with 120mph winds and no moisture you are in for yet another disappointment. The only thing that might be worth watching for is some lake-effect snow.
Look for lake-effect snow that currently is around Mt.Rose. It will shift southward as the wind shifts and maybe hit Heavenly later. Also some wrap-around easterly upslope snow may help the eastern Sierra. I still doubt it will amount to anything more than 6" or so total at the most.
