Trip for early March 2012 to visit La Grave and Chamonix , France A group of 2 to 4 people to share the cost of guides in both locations . Touring with Guides is essential in both locales so finding like -minded partners would be key to this trip. Board and Lodging to be determined according to the group's budget . Looking forward to hearing from interested parties , Thankyou...
I just got done staying with Gary Bigham who lives in Montroc-le-Planet which is 1 km from Argentière in the Cham valley. To survive he rents out space in his condo cooks a mean meal and tells stories about how him and Glen Plake used to ski the area back in the 80's. He knows the place better than almost anyone as he has lived there for more then 30 years.
I'd be interested. Was just trying to get myself a place on an organised Haute Route tour but they wouldn't take me as a splitboarder unless I could find at least one other splitboarder to go with and then they'd take it as a private guided trip.
I'm happy to go anywhere else nearby (keen to be based in Cham) and just rent a guide and do own itinerary.
Damn, wouild love to join you but it seems unilkely.
Was hoping to squeeze in a three day weekend at la grave around the 1st weekend of March but I have limited scope to expand this into anything more. Already have two fairly expensive weeks booked in the Alps and some work trips coming up in Jan, Feb and March so both time and budget are going to be tight.
(edit) - maybe we could chat and look at options. Emma's idea above looks interesting too.
looks like i may do a late season, likely early april, touring/exploring trip with some others. splitboards and skis, all pretty experienced. likely cham, la grave or around morzine. give me a shout if you want to consider joining us.
Yes - definitely! I can be quite flexible on dates/places etc. so just keep me in the loop re your plans.
The tour company think they may have found another splitboarder interested in doing the Haute Route so - fingers crossed - that might actually now happen. I'll try and do that as early as I can in March to leave April clear.
^ Good news, hope the other splitboarder comes through and you get to do the tour. I'll keep you looped in . In Morzine in a week so will get to speak to the others about this face to face and things should start to firm up.
Hey Emma, kind of short notice but myself two friends will be in La Clusaz March 9th, 10th and 11th, touring the combes along the Aravis.
JIn Kazama posted some geat videos showing some of the areas we'll be riding: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=12798
Afaik there's just one hut in the area (Refuge de Gramusset, please correct me if I'm wrong on this) but as we're only there for three days this should be fine. I guess we'll be looking at working our way from Pointe Percee, down the line to Aiguikke de Borderan and back into La Clusaz: http://www.skitour.fr/sommets/pointe-percee,1068.html
If anyone else is going to be in the area or would like to join us, please give me a shout. Shoulod be pretty easy to arrange accomodation over there and the area is about an hour's drive from Geneva if you have to fly in.
That looks amazing! So yes please count me in. No worries about late notice - I work freelance so can be quite flexible.
Am still waiting for my board to arrive but I should have it by then. I'll probably head out to Chamonix a few days before to remind my legs what it is to snowboard (and get my crevasse rescue training in), so can just meet you out there somewhere
Matt & Emma I am just back from a couple of weeks playing around nearby in Les Contamines, St Gervais, same sort of time as Jln was making his videos, best conditions I have ever had for a 2 week holiday.... had whole seasons with less powder ridden. Anyway, would love to piggy back your trip, unfortunately can't, but may be able to squeeze something in late season or defo next winter, I always try for 2-3weeks from mid Jan as its cheaper. Newish to the split but been touring on snowshoes and bootpacking for years. Need some new partners as old ones have either made babies or got broken, other friends are more casual riders and not into skinning up. I would appreciate it if you could keep me in the loop of any future adventures you have planned. I promise i am not a gumby or idiot! Love Tom
