I will be living in Pemberton for the month of January, with the sole purpose of splitboarding. Unfortunately I don't have a sled...oh well. But I know the duffey well, and will be riding things like this 7 days a week:

http://splitboard.com/talk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11040&p=80722#p80722

I particularly need people to ride/ski with on crappy weekdays (monday-thursday). But honestly I am going to try to ride 31 days straight before heading to the kootenays, then Terrace, then Alaska. So come for a split!

My name is Tyler, and the best place to get me is by email: wilkez@shaw.ca

Happy splitting!

Hey, just bought a Spearhead, I'm in Squamish, and have lots of time to ride. Is anyone from around here going to hit the Splitfest at Roger's Pass?

puff nattie and I just booked a trip to whistler jan 31 - feb 7.

staying in the village, hoping for a couple resort days, then backcountry the rest of the week.

just now looking at possible tours. wilkez - your Duffy TR's are making us

We'd be stoked to go out with someone with BC experience to show us some good tours or just provide beta on areas/trailheads. looking for long pow runs, not necessarily the gnar gnar, unless conditions are ripe for it.

how is the public transportation? can we take it to trailheads?

We will probably be gone on the 31st out to the kootenays to continue the journey, but maybe some of the other people here will be around?

As for trail data, pick up "ski touring the coast mountains" by john baldwin. It will give you all the goods for coastal BC. There is also a map available for different areas that is helpful as well. Public transportation is non-existant basically in whistler, except to get around the village. The duffey is 1h20m on the highway past whistler in a car. There is lots of slackcountry to do off the resort though, which is probably the best place to start if you aren't very experienced yet. It's really easy to get to, just watch for the hordes of whistler folk heading out on a nice day from the symphony chair on whistler or showcase t-bar on blackcomb. Or feel free to fire questions my way and I'll try to help.

thx for the info wilkez.

john's guide book looks great. i see he also puts out basic topo/trail maps with tours overlayed for the Whistler area. It that a good map to use?

is there a recommended bc shop in Whistler?

Yeah the stand alone maps are great. The whistler slackcountry is really simple and easy to navigate...it's basically inbounds. Blackcomb is all alpine so it needs good weather and has glaciers so it is a bit trickier.

As for shops, everything in whistler is way overpriced so I never deal personally with any of them. But if you are stuck and need gear, escape route usually seems to have what you need (for a premium). You should be able to pick the books/maps up there as well.

thx wilkez,

with another dryspell instore for CA, we are STOKED to be going to BC.

I'm sure we'll check out the slack country, but only plan on buying two days of lift tickets. We want about 4 days of pure backcountry. looks like we will need a car to get to bc areas away from the resorts. trying to pull it off without renting a car.

sooooo, I'm humbling asking any whistler splitters if they want to play tour guide and taxi for us. We'll buy ya food and :guinness: .

If avalanche danger isn't high, the resort usually sells backcountry passes for around $50 I think. That is also an option. And in reality, they don't check tickets once you scan at the bottom so you can use your BC pass to ride the resort all morning then hit the slack country if you are a cheap bastard like most dirtbag splitboards (such as me).
