Well it does you just have to know where to go !
The lifts officially closed at Crystal on the 19th so as a farewell on some sort Dan and I made a predawn tour out past the southback to tackle a giant. The forecast called for a bluebird day with warm weather so we were expecting more corn like conditions then powder.
Skinning was fast other then the fact that Dan forgot his headlamp :nonono2: but the sun came out soon enough Sourdough Gap, Mt Adams and Smoka peak Rainier and the Crystal lakes Basin Crown Point and Bear gap The snow conditions made travel fast. But in steeper areas it was more efficient to boot pack The scenery was amazing Naches peak, Chinook pass, and Yakima peak beyond 1/10 ridge Our objective was Smoka peak otherwise called Shepard's peak Condition's ranged from a few inches of pow to soft corn Dan ripping the down the face Myself hitting a sidewall Looking back at smoka with our tracks Then back into the Silver Basin for the Keg Tap Its sad to see the lift closed looks like its spring touring season
