So I know this isn't earning the turns, but I've done plenty of hiking this spring and summer, and felt like riding the lifts..............plus we had the bonus of some fresh snow!
I met Todd at 7:30 at the Timberline Lodge parking lot. It had snowed down to about 6500 feet overnight, and there was a little wind sift on the east side of the Palmer Snowfield (several inches in places).
I couldn't believe we actually got a face shot or two today! Nobody believed us, but who cares? It happened. It wasn't like it was epic or deep, but it was fresh, and was good for several runs. The cold smoke hitting my face was almost too good too be true!
The snow corned by about 10:00, fog drifted in about 11:30, and we were down at the Ratskellar by about 12:30. The Monkey Face Porter hit the spot! You can ride down to within aobut 200 yards of the lodge. I'm amazed at the coverage up there still. The Zigzag still looks decent!
Here's a shot looking down towards the lodge at about 9:00........
We climbed out towards the White River Glacier for a rest and some GU, and I snapped this photo of the large ice field complex. It looks good for some climbing, but the seracs are big and probably unstable........

I'd imagine for Sept that would be quite fun! Nice score!

Yeah, it wouldn't have even been interesting in January, but for September it was $$$. It's supposed to warm up considerably later this week, so probably no new snow for awhile

I hiked up a solid board to the top of the snow on the zigzag glacier/snowfield yesterday. I was able to ride almost all the way down the little zig zag canyon, and only had to hike a mile or so to get to the PCT/Timberline trail. Bushwacking with a board on your back is somewhat a chore, but hey, I got september in, and I did NOT have to ride the Palmer snowfield. ( I have been trying for every month this year, and NOT relying on the palmer to make that happen might actually happen.) No pictures (I never seem to take pictures) mainly because I go solo anyways. Not the best snow, but hey, I'll take it regardless.

Sweet - nice work Otto! I know what it's like hiking every month to get turns - currently I'm on 34 months, though I don't always post a TR. You can usually get turns above the Palmer on the White River snowfield most any month if the Zigzag is out.
