another edition of riding in the bpc. thats Big Pine Creek, south fork to be specific.

this area was selected due to easy road access, short skin in, and multiple riding options on varied aspects

its has been a slow but somewhat average start to the year here, i guess. i think it is still a little early and we still need a few more good storms to really open things up. this area had more than enough snow.

on sat i was solo and decided to check out mt alice. i got a very late start and due to the short days i didnt come close to topping out although it does go all the way now. i will be going back there soon!

it was a great day and some great riding although i took no pics of the route. variable conditions were found on this south facing descent, from wind crust to powder and everything in between. all in all it was a great ride down and splitski back to the TH.

snapped a few pics(new cam)at my turnaround point on sat. looking back to the palisades and one of the glaciers back there. it was a beautiful day although an inversion was forecast i didnt notice one.






this is a great little peak with great easy access to some nice lines. i thought about riding this area on sunday even though it does look a bit shallow.


josh (jbay) met up with me on sunday. he was in the middle of some crazy work/splitting road trip and swung over to the eastside to get his fill on sunday. we got an early start, it was cloudy and although the inversion was felt a bit it was very cold on our north facing route, especially as the winds increased later in the day.

as we were hiking back there, i asked josh to pick where he wanted to ride and he chose this:


it turned out to be quite a good call! all riding shots are of josh.














we were stopped short of the top (in the bowl above the chute) due to nuking winds. those same winds gave us excellent riding conditions. pits were dug both days and snow stability was not an issue. there was one very well consolidated snowpack, although those winds may have built up some slabs.

lastly here are a few shots of some other areas that seem like they are filling in nicely and maybe ready in the next few weeks (from south to north):

"there's a lady who knows..." If the weather cooperated I've no doubt we woulda used these again, but by the time we descended everything was already filled in.
