Hogback creek drainage to a gully below Tunnabora peak, Eastern Sierra, CA. 2.10.2008

Im calling this one hogback #1 because this is the gully that is a straight shot right from hogback creek drainage. Its the southernmost drainage. I started this one late but it was nice to make use of my skin track from the previous day. Again I missed the upper portion of this although I dont know how much more riding one can do once topped out in this gully. This was a very pleasent day not too crazy and got back at a reasonable time. The snow in this area was also very fresh and consistent from top to bottom.



reference shots from lone pine town. the area im missing is that whole top section of tunnabora. those shots on the right is that area i went to on fri. the little peaklet on the middle is what started my obsession with this area a couple weeks back.



from the south everything looks a lot steeper than it is








some avy debris lurked underneath here but the walls of this gully were lined with sweet powder.












one thing i love is the shadows that the sierra crest will cast across the owens valley floor at sundown.

sorry no riding or track shots solo and too dark when i came down for anything good.

anyway this was a surprisingly long and clean run in powder the whole way down. im stoked to have gone here. this trip started around 6k ft and ended just over 11k. One day soon I would really like to get to the upper alpine zone in this regoin but i think it will require an overnight journey.
