Cardinal Mtn, Stacker Flat, Eastern Sierra, CA. 01.05.2008
Blizzard Schmizzard! The storm hit as forecast and dumped and dumped and dumped some more. The southern Sierra is getting some love from the current storm track.
I call this area Cardinal Glades but I just made that up because it is the area right below Cardnial Mtn and there are some nice low angle treed sections up on this feature called Stacker Flat. It was a good day for low angle treed stuff. This run was over 4000ft of pure powder. Had to stop once and get over some rocks on a ridge and that was it. Pure Bliss.
Drove up from fish springs this is a great little off-road drive. Got stopped well before the TH somewhere shy of 6000ft. Actually got stuck and had to dig out, so that was far enough!
The elusive Red Lake TH. Its really easy to get to once you know the way.
Looking up the drainage the route is on the left side up a ridge. It was nice out!
Got some help from the locals with breaking trail.
Usually this section is a dry slog. Looking down at Red Mountian Creek.
That drainage to the right is the main approach up to Split.
Skintrack. Kinda hard to see anything though with the flat/dark lighting.
Breaktime.
It got really nasty from here on out so no more pix.
The intersection of the 5th and 6th dimension happens right about here.
