Today the third skier on a northeast aspect of Starvation Peak in the Snake River Range was caught, carried and completed buried to a depth of five feet. This skier was quickly located by companions with a beacon and dug out unharmed. This slide was triggered at an elevation of about 9,000 feet on a mid January surface. It ran fast and far and entrained snow from several connected adjacent slopes that released sympathetically.

dont know how your snow is down there, but up here its not looking to good. some things might be around all year

We still have a few bad layers hanging out. There is a November rain crust still lingering. On varying aspects there are sun crusts, faceted snow, surface slabs and we've accumulated a new surface hoar layer in the last couple days. With each storm cycle there seems to be less and less activity. The day of the Starvation burial there was a skier caught and slid in a couloir in Granite Canyon north of the resort. According to a friend of mine that was skiing with him "he tweaked his knee but he'll be O.K." Also west of the resort there was a naturally occurring slide on Cardiac Ridge.

We've been playing it pretty conservative again this season. Hitting shots that gets lots of traffic or sticking to the trees. I just continue to look for signs of instability.
