Cheap AIRIE level I class

Just received this email and thought I'd pass it along:

Looks like the enrollment is limited to 15 and it's already at 10. If that link doesn't work, you can probably find it from the front page: http://www.ltcc.edu. Sure is a lot cheaper than what I paid for the ASI class! :shock:

Thanks a butt load. I just signed up online and will be taking it, it cost me a whopping $25 because I live across the border.

Any idea what AIARE stands for? The lady I spoke to on the phone didn't know much except that in her opinion the instructor really knows his sh!t.

That is an insane deal. Wonder who will be teaching it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the guides from the usual Sierra guide companies. I believe the AIARE (American Institute For Avalanche Research And Education) thing started recently as an attempt to standardize avy training in the US, and most guide services now offer courses that follow their curriculum. FWIW I believe Bela at ASI was one of the driving forces behind AIARE. More details here:
