I just ordered an Ortovox S1 to replace my old F1. Getting spooked about the fequency driftin on the old girl. Anyone got an S1. scored one for a great price, so I couldn't pass it up. My research on it looked real good, but I'm always interested in field testamonials.
I like it, and its perfect to give to give to partners that are new into backcountry. Has manual override to so you can still practice oldschool with sound only.

I picked one up to replace a stolen BCA tracker. I haven't used it much, just riding inbounds with it on on deep days.
I have a couple of complaints, but nothing really safety related. One thing that bugs me is there's no external battery indicator, there's a flashing light on the outside that might change colour when the battery is low, but I'm colour-blind so I can't rely on that. So I have to flip it open, and navigate through two or three menus to see my battery level. The other thing is the harness has this elastic thing with the very tiny clip on the end, it's easy enough to undo, but I find when it's cold it can be hard to re-attach, especially if you want to do so with your gloves still on. I'd rather have an old school clip like on the tracker and most backpacks etc, this one is trying to be low-profile or something but it sacrifices ease of use.
