DON'T DO IT!!!

Just a little warning: Don't use Lithium Batteries in your transceiver. I went to the beacon basin today for some practice only to find out that my Tracker(1) would only read 0.1m as soon as I got a signal. Thankfully it happened in the Beacon Basin and not the backcountry, as my search mode was rendered pretty much useless. I switched back to alkaline batteries after I got to town and everything started working fine again.

also do not use rechargeable batteries as they can over charge and fry things or simply have an unreliable charge. only use fresh new alkaline batteries every trip!

^^^ alkaline, yes. new batteries every trip is kinda crazy, though. barring extended time in search mode, batteries should last a long time. i usually go through only 1 or 2 sets of batteries in my m2 each season, using it about 50 times, and they still have plenty of juice when replace them.

Ha. I showed up at a cat op a couple years back, insisted i use my own tracker...and learned this the hard way. Nothing like being 'that guy' on day one of a seven day trip...luckily the guide was carrying extra AA's.

I know this goes against the impulse for a majority of consumers, but if you read your owner's manual before use it clearly states to only use alkaline batteries. For those that had to learn this in the field, I am glad you didn't make a fatal error.

I'd also be wary of brand-x batteries and mixing different brands. During a recent Level II course I saw a brand new Ortovox 3+ malfunction due to a single brand-x alkaline.

I prefer Duracell CopperTops my own self.

I put fresh Duracells in my DTS at the beginning of every season. I typically get about 30 backcountry days and I never let my battery meter drop below 66.
