Location: Monarch Pass-Fooses Creek
Participants: Snowblind, Mike, Marcus, Mackavus, Steve, Killclimbz, and Cody the backcountry wunderdog.

After hittig the pass on New Year's day and knowing how fat it was, we went down this past Sunday. The previous three days something like 3 ft of snow had fallen. The skin track we ending setting was calf to knee deep. It was a great day to get out for some mini golf.

So what is this talk of mini golf. Well the first hole was about a 20-25ft drop depending on your speed. MONSTER air, well not really, but a hell of a lot of fun. With 3 ft of fluff on top of more serious fluff it was pretty much no consequence. It was so deep pretty much everyone bomb holed. Snowblind on the take off.

So this time around it was only 8-10 ft drops or so. I went first again and surprise Cody liked my line.

I swear he got almost as much air as everyone else this day. We need to do a better job keeping a camera on him. He's got some nuts (well not really he's nuetered...)

We skinned back out and the rhime covered radio tower equipment was interesting. Looks like it was cold there a few days ago...

that looks stupid deep. too bad I couldnt make it. Any natural slides over yonder?

You know, I didn't see anything that day. I was super worried about the snow pack and the entry bowl. We dug a pit there were a couple of yellow flags but that was about it. We took conservative lines the first two drops and nothing moved. The last two drops we were a little bolder, but still no warning signs. No wumpfing, shooting cracks, natural slides or anything. It was surprisingly bomber down there. It probably helped that most of the bowl had ripped the previous week.

hows the pack compared to Bert?

I would think it would be better due to the moster dump they recieved on top of next to nothing..... is there much Hoar at ground level?

I would say the snowpack there is way better than Bert. Your summation is probably spot on. It was all dirt then it just snowed and snowed. We didn't even dig down to the dirt because a 90+ inch base just didn't make it feasable. I have no idea if the depth hoar layer is persistant there or not. It's definitely more than 2 meters buried at this time though.
