Skied Duderberg Peak on Tuesday May 3rd.
We left a car on the road to Green Camp, not very far unfortunately (about 3 miles from 395!!!)

The Virginia Lakes road was plowed to within 2 miles of the lake. We skinned North from the lake, ended up in the huge bowl N of Dunderberg, hiked up the couloir. After digging a pit-solid snow. There were about 3-6 inches of cold powder on thop of firm, but edgeable snow. Going up the couloir was pretty easy,(it's about 35-40 degrees) but it still took us 5 hours from the car to the peak (3600 ft). After a bit of lunch, we skied the couloir (skied great), we skined to the top of the Green camp couloir and... what a view!!

3,000 ft of pristine snow, medium steep, without a turn in the couloir. The snow was winter, a bit wet, but not mushy, well packed. We skied the first 1,000 ft and it still looked like we haven't made a dent.

Once we had an adventurous creek crossing, we walked a bit to the car, actually we walked (and skinned) for threee hours.

The whole trip, what with ups and downs, and pit digging, and eating and walking took 11 hours. This might be the single longest day in the backcountry, and if it isn't, I'm blocking out the memory.
