Joesnow, gimpy, buddy, steeleman, bcrider Photos by Joesnow and bcrider
This season has been amazing in the Sierras and it only seemed natural that last weekend would follow suit.
Gimpy, buddy, Joesnow and I headed south to the eastside of the Sierras to explore some of the peaks in the vast region. Tahoe is great but compared to the mountains on the eastside it's like comparing Boreal to Squaw Valley. We just don't have the scale that they do down south. It's literally like a giant candy store for bc skiers.
We left South Lake Tahoe at 5am with a plan to meet Steeleman at the Matterhorn trailhead in Twin Lakes. All went as planned and we easily made the 7:30am meeting time.

The weather started deteriorating and our visions of bluebird pow quickly vanished. We said our goodbyes to the Steeleman as he was doing an overnighter at the pass and needed to set up camp for big plans on the following day.

bcr's turn.
The couloir was absolute bliss. The snow was cold, dry, ice cream headache type pow, typical in winter…not April.
The bowl was damn good too except for the flat light.
bcr.
gimpy and buddy ripping.
Looking back. We wanted to take a more direct fall-line in the bowl but the flat light made it difficult.
The snow got heavier the further down the valley we went but it was still very fun and skiable all the way back to the campground.

<insert green streak of crazy jealousy>
Love any kind of Beta you could give me about Dana Plateau from your experiences this past Sunday...we are doing Mt. Dana down and up onto the Plateau this upcoming Sunday...we are leaving SoCal Thursday night for a peak or two in the Cloverleaf Lake Cirque area (behind Mt. Morrison), then hoping to hit a start on Dana and around 2am Sunday...
peace,
D.
