Love any kind of Beta you could give me about Dana Plateau from your experiences this past Sunday...we are doing Mt. Dana down and up onto the Plateau this upcoming Sunday...we are leaving SoCal Thursday night for a peak or two in the Cloverleaf Lake Cirque area (behind Mt. Morrison), then hoping to hit a start on Dana and around 2am Sunday...
peace, D.
Bodhi - You are getting after it early with a 2:00 AM start! If you are intent on doing both Dana and the Plateau (which I would highly recommend based on our view of a fat and untracked Solstice from the Plateau on Sunday) then you'll probably want to take a different approach than us. You really want to approach Dana from the highway near the park entrance and ascend the north ridge. Probably the best approach for this would be to start from the Powerhouse and skin up the drainage towards Ellery Lake (past the ice climbing cliffs). From Ellery Lake stay on the road until you reach the north ridge of Dana. After skiing the Solstice (or Dana Couloir), just head due east towards the lowest spot to gain the plateau. Study the plateau lines from below so you understand where the entrances are in relation to one another.......cause from the top it all looks the same - like the end of the earth! Keep in mind that 3rd Pillar, Ripper, Coke Chute, all take you down a much different drainage than the Powerhouse chutes.
