I have been silently reading this forum for about 2 years. It took me a year to decide to split a board, and a winter to get around to registering and writing a TR. Spring has certainly sprung in the north and this is only my 3rd split trip, I am sad to see the snow go so quick.

Any how a few of us headed up to the Presidentials for a day of skiing and riding. Saturday set a record high in the upper 50’s for the summit of Mount Washington, with valley temps over 80. We chose to ride a few less crowded, descents in the great gulf rather than Tuckerman’s. It was also my friend on the Venture’s 1st day splitting as well. We ended up doing three long runs with about 6000 or so of vert.

The goal. This wall is usually rocky; this year’s funny winds have it loaded with snow.

The steeper, more exposed lines we had hoped to ride were all runneled up because of the rain

We took two laps on the great gulf, skiing the south end of the bowl, climbing ‘airplane’ gully and skinning the remainder of the ridge

Finished the day with a long run down the Ammo Ravine

There was some large (for the north east) avalanches on the west side this year, these are the results…for perspective you can see a guy standing in the lower right corner.

This guy said hi as we left NH (moose standing centered in the shot, kind of hard to see)

Always good to see reports from the east coast. I take it you live in CT...ever toured on the riga on the ct/mass line? There are some nice glades on alander and everett.

Goood stuff.

We climbed that side too... rode Burnt Ravine instead of Great Gulf. Amazing snow!

How big was the waterfall on saturday on Ammo? In the morning, things were ok... We were there at about 2PM and the water came out... we could hear it from the top of the chute. Dangerous stuff!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome and the riga reccomendation, that area is on my list for next year. The only tours i have done are the Thunderbolt and another day in Ammo Ravine.

As for the waterfall in the ammo there were a number of open spots and definately some sink holes about ready to go. It still rode great though.

kickass TR. Looks like we nearly have enough EC splitters for some kind of awesome multi-day epic backcountry adventure next winter :bananas:
